Simple Fall Picnic Essentials
Hailey Fynaardt
Here in Southern California, slightly cooler temperatures and dinnertime sunsets make an evening picnic sound more appealing than ever. Really, any excuse to get outside and share some quality time, and a cheap bottle of wine, with good company is good enough for us. The key to a great picnic is to keep it simple and to make sure we can easily pack in, and pack out, everything we need. Our go-to picnic snacks are usually some good cheeses, olives, crackers, fresh fruit, marcona almonds, and a fair trade chocolate bar for dessert. The fewer plates, silverware, and containers the better, since one of the best parts of a picnic is not having to do a load of dishes afterward.
Whether you want to spread out on the sand or enjoy the view from a local lookout point, here are our picks for enjoying a casual picnic this fall:
Simple Fall Picnic Essentials:
1. A simple backpack to carry your goodies in
2. Beach blanket to spread out on
3. A tea towel "tablecloth" for your picnic
4. A lightweight scarf for layering when the sun goes down
